Preserving, exploring, and sharing Portuguese Canadian history

First meeting of our Oral history @ the Archives working group

Yesterday we had the first meeting of our oral history at the archives working group. This new PCHP initiative brings together individuals who were involved in Portuguese community affairs in the 1960s-80s, invites them to look through select portions of our historical records at York University’s Clara Thomas Archives and Special Collections, and share memories, insights, and stories prompted by those materials. The information provided will be immensely helpful for the archivists when processing our collections and for future researchers consulting them.

We are grateful to Carmen Carvalho, Vasco Osvaldo Santos, and Marcie Ponte for taking part in our inaugural session, and making themselves available to return for future meetings; and to Anna St. Onge and the rest of the CTASC’s staff for facilitating it. Many other individuals have expressed interest in participating in these sessions, which we are hoping to hold once a month. More to follow.
